A Review of Lost in Translation

Directed by Sophia Coppola, Lost in Translation is about two Americans who meet half way around the world, and connect in a way that surprises them both. In his first dramatic role, Bill Murray stars opposite Scarlett Johanson. Their characters find themselves in an unconventional relationship. They do not necessarily make a love connection, but rather make a human connection.

It is about making a connection with someone when you least expect it, with someone you wouldn't have thought. It is an incredibly compelling film. The script is amazing, the acting is some of the best I've seen, and the cinematography is perfect for the story. This movie made me want to visit Tokyo!

Need Some Movie Recommendations?

As someone who rents multiple films every weekend, hits the theatre at least once a week, and keepsup to date on all film related events, like the Toronto International Film Festival, I would consider myself a good source for movie recommendations. Here is a list of some of my favourite movies:

The Truman Show (drama)
Garden State (drama)
Magnolia (drama)
Fight Club (drama/action)
Little Miss Sunshine (dark comedy/drama)
Grease (romantic comedy)
Dirty Dancing (romantic comedy)
Ocean's Eleven (comedy)
My Date With Drew (documentary)
As Good As It Gets (romantic comedy/drama)
Little Women (drama)
The Notebook (romance/drama)
What The Bleep Do We Know? (documentary)

These should get you started at the movie store. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

Little Miss Sunshine - A Moview Review

Little Miss Sunshine is a low budget film (always the best ones, I think!), that follows a dysfunctional family on a road trip of sorts. The writing is incredible. It is best described as a dark comedy - it had me laughing out loud. Brilliantly weaved amongst comedic moments, is a wonderfully touching story about family. I highly recommend it.

Thank You For Smoking! - A Movie Review

I recently rented the movie "Thank You For Smoking". I urge everyone to check out this film. Although it has an ensemble cast, the movie centers around the career of a lobbyist for a large cigarette company. It is spectacularly funny and yet disturbing at the same time. If you like to debate, or you like to listen to debates, this film is for you. It certainly taught me a few things about how to argue a point well. The movie will no doubt give you a few things to think about, regarding some highly controversial issues receiving attention in current society. If you are looking for an entertaining movie, try Thank You For Smoking.
