My dog was fairly fussy about eating dry dog food. We buy a high-quality dry food but he would not eat it unless a small portion of cooked meat was added to his dry dog food. We did not have a problem with this but he started gaining weight.
We stoppped adding meat but instead tried heating up his dog food first in the microwave for 30 seconds. We do not add any water prior to heating the food. He loves it and no longer requires that meat be added!
We are not sure why he prefers heated food but it should not be that surprising as humans do too. Perhaps the warm food helps him digest it better or perhaps it gives off more odour which he finds appealing. Either way, he is happy eating dry dog food that is heated in the microwave.
If your dog is fussy about eating dry dog food, try heating it to warm it up.
